How the Process Works

Fall recruiting starts before you ever step foot on campus. During the summer incoming freshmen and transfer students receive information in the mail and have opportunities to talk with recruitment counselors from many fraternities during Orientation. Throughout the recruitment process you will be encouraged to visit with and tour the 15 fraternities. Read all the material you receive and talk with as many counselors as you can during this time.  You should try to "take in" as much information about the fraternity system at WVU as you can in order to make a sound decision during Formal Rush.

During the beginning of each semester, general recruitment events are held. These events are designed to allow prospective members to learn about the individual fraternities in a non-intimidating environment. This period is called Informal Rush.

To be considered for membership, each person is required to do the following prior to or during Formal Rush:

  1. Register
  2. Attend Rush events
  3. Pursue membership in the fraternity you feel is best for you
In addition, prospective members are encouraged to attend chapter recruitment events hosted during, and following, the period of general recruitment events. These events are listed under "Social" within each chapter's webpage. [Take me to the Chapters page]

The objective of Informal Rush is for prospective students to learn about the WVU fraternity system as a whole, get to know each of the fraternities and for the fraternities to get to know the prospective members. Ideally, each prospective member will narrow down their choices to a handful of fraternities they may want to join before Formal Rush - where formal member selections are made. At the same time, each fraternity should have an idea of the prospective members they wish to extend an invitation to join their group.
